When avocado toast stormed the food scene several years ago, people either loved it or hated it. Our take? We loved it back then, and we still do! A plate of crunchy toast paired with nature’s most buttery of fruits still offers one of life’s simplest indulgences.
How To Make This Recipe
Because this simple dish brings together basic ingredients, all of the ingredients must be fresh. Our recipe below brings together whole grain bread, ripe avocado, red onion and fresh lime juice. We start with thick slices of whole grain bread and toast them to a crunchy, golden brown. Sourdough bread also works very well here.
Once we toast our bread, we select a perfectly ripe Hass avocado. To prevent knife injuries during preparation, be sure to take extra care when cutting those slippery avocados. We carefully slice avocado in half lengthwise, remove the pit using a big spoon, and then scoop out that creamy flesh before slicing. If you’re nervous about cutting avocados, you’re not alone. We love using OXO’s 3-in-1 Avocado Slicer to protect our own delicate hands.
With the help of a large-blade knife, we transfer our avocado slices onto our golden brown toast. Once in a while, we prefer mashed avocado instead of slices. When we choose to mash them, we do so in a bowl before spreading.
After we adorn our toast with our buttery fruit, we add freshly sliced red onion to brighten the flavor. Then, we add a healthy squeeze of lime!
Finally, we finish our toast by seasoning with a pinch of salt and red pepper flakes. And, just like that, we’re ready to eat!
