Cranberry-orange relish delivers iconic sweet and tart flavors to your holiday table in 5 minutes flat. As a naturally-sweet relish, this easy cranberry side dish relies on dates in lieu of refined sugar to add sweetness. While we typically bring this to our holiday dinner table, we also enjoy leftovers in sandwiches, oatmeal, and dairy-free yogurt.
How To Make This Recipe
We start by gathering our ingredients, which includes fresh cranberries. Cranberry season starts around mid-September and runs through November in North America. Because fresh cranberries are seasonal, we typically find them in the store around the Thanksgiving holiday. Outside of the holiday season, we rely on thawed frozen cranberries.
In addition to cranberries, we pull together a large orange, walnuts, and dates. Because we use our orange rind to flavor our relish, we simply wash the outside of the orange without peeling. While we’re gathering our ingredients, we soak our dates in hot water to soften and drain. Meanwhile, we’ll also bust out our handy food processor.
Prep The Relish
Once we have all of our ingredients ready, we cut our orange into large chunks without removing the skin. Then, we pour all of our ingredients into the bowl of our food processor.
Once everything is in the bowl, we start by giving our mix a few quick pulses. Then, we briefly blend. We stop blending when we reach a finely chopped yet crunchy mixture.
Ready To Serve
And, just like that, we’re ready to enjoy our cranberry-orange relish. Be sure to chill this relish in a sealed container until ready to serve.
For best results, we like to prepare our relish a few days before serving to meld the flavors. Enjoy any leftovers in sandwiches, oatmeal, and dairy-free yogurt.
