General Tso’s cauliflower brings all of the crisp and flavor without the extra fat and sodium. How is this possible? Once again, basket-style air fryers come to our rescue! In this simple recipe, you just toss your cauliflower florets in a simple batter as your air fryer heats up. After cooking up the florets, toss them in a General Tso’s sauce of your choice.
Does this one make a mess of your air fryer? Yes, yes it does. Thankfully, these basket-style air fryers clean up quite easily! If you want to add a little green to your dish, just add few steamed broccoli florets or garnish with sliced green onions.
What You’ll Need
- 3 to 4 cups cauliflower florets
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon vegan broth powder, chicken style
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 cup non-dairy milk, unsweetened
- 1 teaspoon canola oil or canola oil spray
- 1/2 cup vegan General Tso’s Sauce of your choice
How To Make It
- Be sure to have all of your ingredients handy, as this dish will come together quickly. Start by spraying or brushing your air fryer basket lightly with canola oil. Now, preheat your air fryer basket at 390°F for 10 minutes.
Note: This recipe is designed for traditional, basket-style air fryers. This batter will drip through the basket, and you won’t want this dripping directly onto those heating elements found at the bottom of most multi-cookers.
- While the air fryer is preheating, let’s make the batter. In a large bowl, combine the flour, broth powder, garlic powder and red pepper flakes. Whisk in the non-dairy milk until you have a smooth yet thick batter.
- Just before the air fryer is done preheating, toss the cauliflower florets in the batter and transfer to the air fryer basket. Don’t worry if batter drips through the basket. This is totally fine in a standard air fryer (not multicooker, see step 1 note above). This batter will clean up easily later on with a quick soak.
- Allow the cauliflower to cook for 18 minutes at 390°F, turning once halfway using tongs or a fork. These may stick, which is no big deal here at the halfway point. Depending on your air fryer, you may need few more minutes to get them nice and crisp.
- Once your cauliflower is crisp, place your battered florets in a large bowl. Toss with General Tso’s sauce.
- Dinner’s ready! Serve your General Tso’s Cauliflower on a bed of brown rice and a side of broccoli. Enjoy!
